Correcting a humped, crooked or large nose to suit the face, and restoring breathing.
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, changes the shape of the nose and, where needed, improves breathing. Every nose is different. My aim is a nose that suits your face, looks natural and breathes comfortably.
What it corrects
A dorsal hump: a bony and cartilage bump on the bridge
A crooked nose and deformity left by an injury
A large nose or nostrils that are wide for the face
An upturned or drooping nasal tip
Difficulty breathing caused by a deviated septum
Techniques
Open and closed rhinoplasty: the incision is made between the nostrils or only inside the nose
Septorhinoplasty: the shape is corrected together with the deviated septum, and breathing is restored
Ethnic rhinoplasty: an approach that keeps the characteristic features of the face and allows for skin thickness and cartilage structure
Tip plasty: only the tip is reshaped, without touching the bone
Revision rhinoplasty: correction of a problem left by an earlier operation
How the operation goes
The operation is usually done under general anaesthesia and takes one and a half to three hours. Beforehand I take photographs of your face, and we discuss together which change is possible and which would not suit you.
Recovery
The splint on the nose is removed after about a week
Bruising and swelling around the eyes mostly settle within two weeks
Most patients return to work after about two weeks
Wearing glasses and exercise are restricted for a few weeks
The final shape settles gradually, over up to a year
A good rhinoplasty draws attention to the whole face, not to the nose.
