Reconstructive and burn surgery

Restoration after burns, injury and tumours with skin grafts, flaps and microsurgery.

The aim of reconstructive, or restorative, surgery is not to change appearance but to return damaged or lost form and function. This is also the main work of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic where I work.

When it is done

  • Burn surgery: closing fresh burns and treating old burn scars and tightness that limits movement
  • Correcting deformities of the face, hand and body after injuries and accidents
  • Closing the defect left after a tumour is removed
  • Surgical removal of skin growths, moles and marks
  • Correcting thick and painful scars

Techniques

  • Skin grafting: a thin layer of skin is taken from a healthy part of the body and placed on the wound
  • Flap surgery: skin is moved with its own blood supply from a neighbouring area or transferred from a distant one
  • Microsurgery: very fine vessels and nerves are sutured under a microscope, and a severed limb is restored
  • Tissue expansion: a balloon placed under the skin is filled gradually and new skin forms

From our practice

In September 2026 our clinic team restored the hand of a three-year-old child, severely injured in a meat grinder, in an eight-hour microsurgical operation. I was part of that team.

Insurance

Necessary reconstructive operations are mainly carried out under compulsory health insurance. We check whether your case is covered when you get in touch.
