Face and neck lift
Lifting sagging cheeks, jawline and neck with SMAS and deep plane techniques.
A facelift returns the sagging tissues of the face and neck to their place. In modern techniques the skin is not simply pulled: the supporting layer of muscle and connective tissue beneath it (the SMAS) is lifted. The result therefore looks rested, not stretched, and lasts for years.
What it corrects
- Sagging cheeks and a lost jawline
- Deepening folds between the nose and mouth
- A double chin and loose neck skin
- Vertical bands in the neck
Techniques
- Mini facelift: mild sagging of the lower face is corrected through a short incision
- SMAS facelift: the supporting layer under the skin is tightened and fixed
- High-SMAS facelift: the supporting layer is lifted from a higher level, which also improves the mid-face
- Deep plane face and neck lift: the tissues are released in a deeper layer and lifted as one unit
- Mid-face lift: the cheek and the area under the eyes are raised
- Full facelift: the forehead, mid-face, lower face and neck are corrected together
- Ponytail lift: an endoscopic lift through small incisions hidden in the hair
- Platysmaplasty and neck lift: the neck muscle is tightened and the double chin is reduced
How the operation goes
A facelift is done under general anaesthesia and takes three to six hours, depending on the extent. Incisions are hidden in front of and behind the ear and along the hairline. Patients usually stay in the clinic for one night.
Recovery
- Bruising and swelling mostly settle within two to three weeks
- Stitches are removed within one to two weeks
- Smoking seriously harms healing and must stop before and after surgery
- The final result forms over three to six months
