Breast augmentation
Increasing breast volume with a silicone implant or your own fat.
Breast augmentation with silicone implants increases the volume of the breast and gives it a fuller shape. A well-chosen implant matches your body measurements and looks natural.
Who it is for
- Micromastia: breasts that are small from development
- Loss of volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
- A difference in size between the breasts
The choices you will make
- Implant shape: round or teardrop (anatomical)
- Size: chosen by measuring the width of the chest and the elasticity of your skin
- Placement: under the muscle, over the muscle or dual plane
- Incision site: the fold under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit
- Implants with a chip: a microchip inside lets the serial information of the implant be read from outside
- Fat grafting: enlargement with your own fat for a modest increase
How the operation goes
The operation is done under general anaesthesia and takes one to two hours. A breast ultrasound or mammogram is arranged beforehand according to age. If you plan to breastfeed, be sure to say so: the technique is chosen with that in mind.
Recovery
- A special support bra is worn for about six weeks
- Office work can be resumed within a week
- Raising the arms and heavy lifting are restricted in the first weeks
- Implants are not considered lifelong; a yearly ultrasound check is advised
